Kodesh House is a place to learn, play, grow, transform and experiment while discovering and exploring the
wisdom and spirituality of Judaism.
Rabbi Marc Philippe likes to describe Kodesh House as “Cage Free Judaism.”
It is a place to find spirituality, comfort, healing and happiness.
Through a creative multitude of programs, classes, meditations and social events both live and virtual, we help people unplug from the everyday while tuning into their Jewish heritage and connecting with others and themselves.
Whether it be spirituality, creativity, knowledge, music or the arts, Kodesh House will help everyone find their special place.

What is Kodesh* House?

Rabbi Marc Philippe is the visionary and spiritual leader of Kodesh House. As a pioneer who spreads harmony and love to everyone, he has created an innovative approach to building an independent Jewish community attracting Jews from all over the world.
With the challenges and realities of the 21st century Jewish way of life, Kodesh House offers a new and progressive space for people to get in touch with their roots. It is the modernization of Judaism that changes the way people worship while maintaining and respecting its traditions. As a cultural and spiritual home, people come to meet new friends, express and exchange ideas and thoughts, share enthusiasm, concerns, hopes and dreams then go home feeling empowered, connected, inspired and happy.

Kodesh House offers an interactive, musical service combined with discussion, often followed by meals that are prepared by and shared with our family. Services are held in a garden, a living room, lounging on couches or sitting on the floor.... gone are the days of the pews and pulpit. Kodesh House is a family of your current and future friends who have made a commitment of spiritual togetherness. We are a group of people from all sorts of backgrounds, who love to come together to explore our faith.
* Kodesh (קודש) = “holy” in the sense of being set aside for a sacred purpose.
We pray together
Under the guidance of Rabbi Marc Philippe and Rebbetzin Valerie, their philosophy of cage free Judaism has been a recipe for an exploration of our place in G!d’s Universe. Kodesh House meets in a beautiful garden or home to pray and sing bringing us to higher levels of spirituality and peace.
We study together
Kodesh House is a community of learners. We study together both in the living room of Kodesh House or on Zoom. From Rabbi Marc Philippe’s guided Torah study to musically spiritual meditation, Kodesh House strives to allow everybody involved to grow, transform and connect while discussing ideas, thoughts and beliefs. Each session brings us to a higher and higher level in the understanding of G!d’s world.
We celebrate Life together
From weddings to funerals, conversions to brit milahs, the greatest blessings of being part of Kodesh House is sharing the cycles of life. Rabbi Marc Philippe’s greatest honor is to officiate for all of the life cycle events surrounded by those in our community. More importantly, our Kodesh House family is there for the celebrant in prayer, fellowship, and support, sharing the joy, tears and laughter.
We share a table together
As a family, we eat together with lively monthly Shabbat dinners in the Garden or living room. We come together to pray and then to break bread (or in this case a challah) together. We say Kiddush, Hamotzi and then have a jubilant l’chaim celebrating not only a day of rest but a shared success of completing the week. The adage that a family needs to share meals together to keep it strong and loving is as true with Kodesh House as it is with your own family.
We explore new things
At Kodesh house, we come together to listen to our rabbi’s beautiful music, whether in prayer, meditation or the joy of joining in a niggun (a piece of music with no words except those we chant in our hearts). We have listened to musical bowls, practiced yoga, cooked exotic meals and experienced an Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Each adventure brings us closer together and heightens our spirituality.
All these things, and more, are Kodesh House.
Q & A:
What is the future of Kodesh House?
There is a tremendous disconnect, between the way Jews live at home and the way many of today's synagogues look. Congregants find themselves in buildings designed for their great-grandparents. Rabbi Marc Philippe envisions a multipurpose space where people work from their laptops, have meetings, sip coffee, eat dinner, practice yoga, pray, meditate, learn, listen to music—the kinds of spaces that Jews already live their lives in. Religious life is evolving and the modern Jewish space is about choices. Kodesh House wants everyone to feel that they’re at home. Among friends. Accepted.
Is this a synagogue?
You can call Kodesh House whatever you like. But most importantly, it is a spiritual home where you can learn, grow, dream, transform and unplug from the everyday while tuning into your Jewish heritage and connecting with others. Whether it be spirituality, creativity, knowledge, music or the arts, Kodesh House helps everyone find their special place.
Is Kodesh House kosher?
Everyone has different kinds of practices in their homes but, at Kodesh House, all meals served are either home cooked by our family partners in our fully kosher kitchen or brought in from kosher certified establishments.
What if I don’t know Hebrew?
Many of those who join us neither read nor speak Hebrew. Our services are filled with music and spirituality, joy and happiness. You don’t need Hebrew to feel immersed in the rhythm and ruach (spirit) of our services. A transliterated booklet is provided to any who want to try to sing along. Learn the words and you can travel the world over and sing along in most services.
What if I’m spiritual but not religious / religious but not spiritual?
This isn't a problem. Experience the magic of singing together!
We believe each voice is sacred. You may safely and respectfully express your feelings. We will listen.
Are you open to interfaith families?
Of course! Kodesh House welcomes anybody who is interested in learning, participating or simply listening to our Jewish services. Everyone is welcome to explore with us.
What if I’m not Jewish?
Again, Kodesh House is open and welcoming to everyone. All that really matters is that you want to explore your spirituality and connect. If you’re curious, come discover with us.
